Caramba cranks - what bottom bracket?

I have a nos pair of sidewinder cranks, thinking about actually using them as well as selling off a few surplus bottom brackets, but don't want to part with any that will fit these cranks. Problem is, I have no idea what bb axle length fits these cranks. Tried the usual sources for this information, came up empty.

Anyone know for sure what bb length is needed. The only info I have found was for the double barrel cranks which use a 113mm bb. No idea if the same applies for the sidewinders though, and don't want to de-nos them on the wrong bb.

Thanks

Re:

If you look at Sheldon Brown's website there's lots of information about bb crankset combinations. If not it also explains how to measure your chainline so that you can workout what size bb you need.

Do a Google search for chainline and it's the first thing that comes up

Re:

you wouldn't happen to have a b/b or b/b axle only with a spindle length of between 137 1nd 142 mm, would you?

If the Carambas were anything like the Toplines, they need at least a 122.5mm bb depending on the frame.

On an early Zaskar, Toplines were on a 125mm for granny ring clearance

Re:

Problem is, no idea if they are like top lines/cools which required a long bb or not. Hoping someone knows as I would prefer to know before fitting than have to faff about with various bbs and trial and error.

I guess I'm lucky enough to have a number of different bbs kicking about, just hopeful that someone knows before I resort to experimenting.

Ok, I'll do the googly bits for you

Here is a Topline crank and a Caramba crank - they are built the same with the similar size spacers for the granny ring with the long chainring bolts

Heck, I could have used any boutique crank from that era but I know Toplines and a few others

they all require a long axle

depending on frame material, it will be at least 122.5mm.

They are very similar sizing to XT M730 chainsets which require the same size BB on certain frames.

You havent said what frame so you will have to decide between 122.5, 125 or 127mm

To give you more 'help' these Kookas are built the same as your Carambas but the spder is designed for a narrower BB axle. If you look at where the axle goes in, the Topline/ Caramba are flush whereas the Kooka is raised.

Re:

Somewhere in the not to distant past,ok 10 years or so, I out up a post showing the profile changes of cranks, from super duper low profile M900' to low profile Suntour and old fuddy duddy normal profile M730 giving the general three steps of profile. there are others of course, winder if I'll ever find that post again.
