I have been trying to figure out what's wrong with my car. I've videos the problem as its easier to see. I am pushing the throttle and HOLDING it, i'm not dabbing it to do this. The car is basically un driveable because it will kangaroo violently. I have asked on my car forum without much luck so far.
I have changed; ECU, Coil packs, LT leads, Plugs, Idle control valve, checked for air leaks. I cannot get the fault code reader to give me a reading either. That light flashing is the ECU/Engine light. Gentle acceleration seems to be better in general. Engine is a 2.0Litre 16v XU10J4 wit Motronic 1.3 and ACAV system.

Thanks

1st dose it do this from cold?
2nd if there is no fault code it must be something mechanical (ie not electrical)
3rd have you checked to see if exhaust gases are flowing free from the exhaust?
4th have you checked that the engine is breathing properly ?

Will check back in a while to see your answers

check check and check again for air leaks in the inlet side. dont forget vacuum hoses. the wife's saxo was doing the exact same thing (i also posted a vid on a saxo forum)

i had already checked for air leaks but missed one on the inlet manifold.

my money is you've missed one.

or a dodgy maf

Does it warm and cold, that video is warm, the temp gauge is about half way up whci is normal operating temperature.

I cannot get it to read anything, it should give a 12 then 11 for all clear, maybe it me doing it wrong but I have had codes off it in the past.

It's all free flowing and clean. Accelerating gently is fine, and when that ECU light is out its fine. From the video you can see it comes on and off

Yes, it seems fine and no leaks.

The plugs are clean too. I believe the problem is electronic and not mechanical, the cut off it too clinical to be mechanical if you know what i mean and together with the ECU light coming on.

My guess is the crank case breather pipe being obstructed or damaged.

Will check again, but it seems electronic to me, unles an air leak is messing a sensor up. I think the MAF on these is on the ECU (it has a vacuum hose to it) and ive changed the ECU..

If that was blocked would it no be sucking oil in? I'll check that too anyway though thanks.

What he says or air leak would be best guess, if it was electrical there "should" be a fault code. Also how are you checking for air leaks, The best way is to spray brake cleaner or wd40 all over the engine when its running at idle, if the engine note rises then the leak is the area your spraying. If that makes any sense

When I say there is no fault code I mean its not working, not there isn't one. When I start the test it should give 1 long 2 short to denote the beginning and then followed by all the faults if any then 1 long 1 short to end. Its not even starting the test. Meaning either the plug or my tester is goosed.

If you watch the video again you can see the synchronisation of the ECU light with the engine revs cutting out.

I've just been over it again and cannot find any leaks. Tomorrow I may pull some ancillaries off for better access to the piping. I'm leaning towards the ignition amplifiers being at fault TBH as it's worse under load and high revs than just gentle accelerating.

I had a renault williams a few years ago and the same problem happened with that it ticked over smooth, then dropped off, then smooth, revs were free though right to the redline, but when under load it would die but as you have, with gentle accelleration it was almost ok.......took me two weeks to find out that the cat was breaking up and blowing the crap all in the middle box and blocking it up,no fault code etc.may be that :?
