car insurance

Well I also recently had the "You don't need to do anything, we'll just renew it for you. Oh, and by the way its £100 more this year despite not claining and everything" letter.

Even me the man who's all time favourite military figure is General Apathy was outraged sufficiently to go on that meerkat site thingy. I saved £130 and have a cuddly meerkat to look forward to. Result!

I gave my supplier chance to match and they didn't even try.

You have to watch the auto-renewal, my bike insurance was due recently. I was expecting it to go up, even though I'd got an extra years on claims, but they put an extra £50 on my voluntary excess.

The thing is it made no difference to the premium if it was there or not. When I asked them they said 'We always do that'. Then they seemed suprised I took my business elsewhere.

Ive just insured both my cars after my renewal was insane prices.

Im 28.

Corsa 1.8 sri I got down to £254 fully compwith the AA with partner as a named driver

Golf 1.8 turbo £270 with marks and Spencer fully comp with partner a named driver.

i was with admiral and they wanted over £600 just for the corsa and were only willing to drop the £25 admin fee! shocking.

Just had our admiral multicar renewal .....Over £600 more than last year

I swear its black magic and there is no rhyme nor reason to it...i got quoted less on my classic insurance if i did 10,000 miles a year than if i put in 5k miles a year.

I couldn't get a quote on a classic fiat 500 but they'd insure me on an audi coupe? i found that it was really off the wall, the stupider the idea the better your price.

Got a quote on a 1997 Toyota Supra SZ N/A Auto a few days ago. Totally stock. £1,750 TPFT

I was paying £2,600 for a 1.6 Rover!

( I'm 18 )

Also on a side note.. I got quoted £1,100 TPFT for my 50cc Scooter with 2 years NCD but I got a quote for a 1100cc Motorbike of £950 TPFT!

I got mine from Admiral last week. Similar to OP, £450 last year, £750 this year. Went on Confused.com - £460 - with Bell. Admiral won't quote for me!

Bell is owned by Admiral - same happened last year. When I ring them up they go- ok then we can do that as its the same company!

I've been with Admiral for 5 years, have 8 yrs no claims and they "reward" me every year by trying to automatically renew me and screw £300 extra out I me! I ring up and they can drop the extra money instantly. It makes no sense. They're all the same though - utter shysters.

It's really a failure of regulation, they should be made to clean up their act.

more insanity at my end.

as a named driver on the missus' signum i add about £125 a year (same age same history) when we changed it from partner to spouse it went up by £5.

bmw 525tds of mine, changed the missus from partner to spouse & it knocked £30 off the bill!

whats more confusing is when i swap my car, the same drivers & same policy with the same insurer will be £300 a year cheaper for a newer, more expensive, quicker car (albeit with slightly lower bhp but a lot more torque)

The same company Im with that gave the renewal quote also had the cheek to charge me to change my address £42.00 so that also will be getting thrown at them in the morning ..

Exactly the same story here. Admiral quote shot up, telephone them "No sir, that's the best we can quote."

Tried the comparison sites. Elephant came out £300 cheaper. Elephant is a sister company of Admiral. Same owner, address, everything.

Telephone Admiral again to tell them I won't be going to renew with them 'cos their sister company quoted £300 cheaper. This time "We can match that sir." Official complaint lodged about them lying to me 20 minutes earlier. Email asking for the evidence, so I told them to listen to the callls which had been "recorded for quality and training purposes." Three days later got another email from them apologising and promising to "Review our procedures."

Do I believe them? Probably not. Let's see what happens next renewal time.
