Canti hanger advice

I'm renovating my Ozark to use as a shopping and daughter-towing-in-trailer bike but I've run into a mini snag.

I've changed the 'looooong and low' stem for a modern shorter one, using a quill to ahead adaptor. At the moment the bike has a Deore V brake on it but I'd like to put the original XT (pre-SLR) cantilever on the front.

But there's nowhere to put the hanger now. The old stem had a hole drilled through it (by the manufacturer) for the outer to terminate.

Should I just leave the V-brake on or could I do something else?

I've got a canti-hanger from an M-Trax that fits a 1 1/8th steerer, but there's not enough room under the stem and spacer to actually terminate the cable without bending it 90 degrees in 2 cm.

Eek!

Either custom make a hanger or get some suspension fork with the terminator built into the brace.
Or find a longer drop hanger...

But Pre-SLR is going back a long long way to ~1988 M730's being the last iirc

Stick with the V brakes.

... there are vbrake to canti rockers you can attach.. Think you would need to keep the v leavers though.

EDIT:
You could try creating a 'noodle' to do the redirect, I do remember hangers like this available bitd. Maybe tektro or somebody has one.
Hang on

They do what looks like longer drop ones and a noodle style one.

EDIT 2:
went searching for you and came across these

Also note the Syncros noodle drop is there.

Wow! Thank you - I shall order one of those.

The bike's from 1987 and so is largely kitted out with parts from that era. I fitted a V to the front for the last time I took it XC - tired ceramic rims and a very old XT cantilever weren't really doing the job any more. It's still got canti levers on though - XC Pros the ones that have rubber covers over the blades).

On the rear the U-brake's performance is still fine though.

Thanks again!
