Cannondale seat post diameter

I have recently acquired what was described as a "retro Cannondale frame and forks".It has Pepperoni forks,a 1" threaded steerer and from its frame number was made in October 1990.When I measure the seat post internal diameter I keep coming up with 26.8,however when I force a 26.8 down the hole so to speak it noticeably frees off once past the split seat collar end.

Does anyone know what seatpost this bike should have? Owners of other bikes of this age have suggested 27.2 is correct, which would imply that the seat collar end has been crimped shut slightly.

Help

Yup, all 27.2 until relatively recently. October 1990 build date suggests 1991 model year, so welded-on QR tabs on the seat tube. What does the slot look like with no post and the QR removed?

Think I am now confident in buying a 27.2 seat post.Although slot at rear of seatpost looks reasonably straight it would seem that it is crimped slightly. Thanks for all your comments.
