I think I am understanding now.
The BOTE in 92 came in 18, 20, 22 (s,m,l)
and the other bikes in the range came in 15, 18, 20, 22. (xs,s,m,l)
So james your m1000 is an 18 and mines is the eqivelent size, so its an 18 too, but the actuall measurements are smaller due to the design. SO a buyer in 1992 would look at the 18" M1000, or the 18" M800 as the same bikes but with different measurments.
If mine was described as a 15" then it would be compared to the 15" bikes in the rest of the range which would not be a good comparision.
Thanks 24pouces for your help! Another question with the the force 40 brakes then......mine came with shimano slr levers, but the original spec was for diacompe levers. Are the SLR ones the right choice for the force 40 set up?
I am lookign into putting v brakes on it and solvign the problem once and for all, but for now I'm going to fit a hanger on the rear and set them up like standard cantis and see what that is like.
