Some clarification - Cannondale's Headshok predates the 1.5in standard, but the internal diameter of a Cannondale Headshok headtube and a 1.5in frame headtube are the same. The only difference as far as the frames are concerned is that Headshok headsets don't go into the frame as far as 1.5in ones. That means that you can put a Headshok headset into a 1.5in frame, but you may not be able to put a 1.5in headset into a Headshok frame - some of them had steps inside that would stop the headset going in all the way. Original Headshok steerer tubes were 1.565in diameter, so a tiny bit bigger than 1.5in. I'm pretty sure that the current ones are 1.5in, though.

Yes a bit :? I think that the fork is 1997/98 as it has the rocker canti mount on it.And I have seen a 1999/2000 frame and the guy has measured his fork and it is the same diameter as mine only thing is his frame has been broken at the dropout and rewelded :? So it needs respraying and filing to shape and new decals :roll: but it may be o.k.as I only want it to commute on,so the repair does not worry me unduly.

Precisely. The cups/headtube ID are exactly the same. Modern 1.5 cups typically press in further than the cannondale cups did. So, if you could find a modern 1.5 headtube frame, with the correct headtube length, you could easily install a headshock/lefty fork.

The steerer tube diameter where the stem mounts is different than modern 1.5's though.

If those headtube inner diameters are the same then indeed its possible.
Now only to wait if full 1.5 standard really spreads across whole spectrum of frames. Its just downhill and big travel fs bikes.
I guess it would be quite difficult to find a nice light hartail frame with full 1.5 headtube.

MikeD are you really sure new forks went down to a exact 1.5? (meaning older stems wouldnt fit it..)
I have 2005 1FG (quite recent fork ) with SI cups, but its still old school diameter..

My Delta V2000 had the rocker mount (Force 40) and it was a '93 model. '92 and earlier had a brass pulley iIrc.
