Cannondale 3.0 - downtube bosses

Retro Guru
Morning all,

I'm trying to fit some Shimano 600 downtube gear levers to a 1994 Cannondale road bike but the dont fit, it used to have bar mounted sti's using sti gear mounts on the bosses.

Any idea why the retro levers wont fit the booses - are the bosses removeable?

Cheers

Pictures are always helpful, but the most likely explanation is that your levers come with dished boss covers for a standard 28.6mm steel downtube, and you need the flat boss covers that work with the flat lever mounts on fat-tubed bikes.

Refer to the diagram here:

I suspect you've got the curved part 6 from the main diagram, and you need the flat part 6 from the small option box in the lower left. Does that look right?

Same problem I had earlier days on my Alan's. Only Campagnolo levers would fit. Despite all other equipment. And special (Shimano) BB was trequired also in italian frames.

Thanks Jim ace stuff, that looks like it could be the problem - the bosses dont look like ordinary bosses from say a steel frame of that age and the flat parts might do it, I will need to check it out later but the dished parts dont sit properly.

Now the hunt for the parts begins!!

similar issue - suntour gpx

My 3.0 had suntour gpx shifters. the right shifter went bad and I rigged up a shimano 105 on it. It never worked right but good enough for occasional riding. I picked up some new gpx shifters on ebay to try to bring it back to original equipment but the right shifter when replaced will not lock in. when I shift it ratchets OKbut when I go the other way the whole lever body turns. I am thinking this is a similar problem to the one stated here? am I missing a part that the shifter is supposed to set on to keep that from happening?

I had (still have) a 1989 3.0 with Shimano Downtube levers and as one eyed Jim said it needs "flat bosses" , it is easy to file down the alloy of the STI cable stops but too hard to even attempt on the chromed steel part of the DT levers
