as a side note whats the best way to remove chroming ?
as i've got a pair of RC-30 legs that need it taking off and then respraying.

Bob jacksons re-do chrome work and have a price list on the website. To strip the legs of an rc30 they told me they would be acid dipped.

i was thinking along the lines of DIY stripping as i can't afford to pay someone to strip them.

Certainly not a DIY job. You need large amounts of the most horrific chemicals to strip chrome off. Not worth doing on the cheap either as a naff chrome job will look worse than leaving it as it is now.

so sanding or grinding it off wont work ? (i say grinding in the loosest of terms)
i was intending to get the legs resprayed as apposed to re chromed.

elbow grease i have plenty of money on the other hand i don't :/

On Wheeler Dealers in the Triumph Stag episode they rechromed the bumpers, fuel filler cap, and a couple of other bits of brightwork. I seem to recall the price was around £120.

I've looked on the WD website but can't find reference to the company that did the work, but a bit more digging should bring it up.
