I think we should step back and think about if one of you were the seller.
If I made a mistake in my listing price I would hope that the buyer would understand and not try and take advantage of the situation. Talking about Karma. I just hope the same thing would not happen to you. It is one thing to get something cheap and feel good about it but this is pretty close to being robbery.
Sorry, but I would tell the guy to relist them and then try my luck or at least offer to buy them at a price you are comfortable with.
Just my 2 cents.

Unless it was a bin price cant see how he can complain,an auction ran its course and got only 1 bidder and he does have a ' non-payers will be reported to ebay 'statement in the listing
Seems a bit like double standards :?
We've all had stuff go for 0.99p,and have grumbled but still sent it off as 'one of those things'
Strange one :?
I suppose youve just got to accept your refund and be sensitive to his dilemma.
But i would point out to him his reporting non-payers to ebay statement
just out of badness
Ask him for a tenner for your trouble    and you wont report him
