Why not put the pedal on inside instead. Cleans the threads.

as i am sure you know, drive side is RH thread.
I doubt many people will have a tap so good luck.
If the knackered thread is not reachable by threading the pedal from the back, how about buying a cheap pedal with hex socket, cut it short so that you just have the threaded part and that will go all the way through.
