If anything it could be a 1996 frame (from the position of the 6 in the serial number YM6080163 somebody may recognise this is they have a Merlin or similar.

Might be best to aks your mate and see if he remembers anything.

Merlin (shop not builder) They didnt make the frames, just imported reasonable quality stuff from the far east. You will probably be hard pushed to find out anything else.

The same frame would also likely of been sold by various other shops world over under different names.

Peering through the dross, there is a smart steel frame.

If you want to keep it, remove every single item attached to it, chuck them in a bin or on ebay and then visit the retrobike for sale section.

you are then just a few mouse clicks away from a reasonable bicycle of 'quality'

As per my email think it might well be a Merlin of Preston (or something similar). Sadly dreams you may have held of selling and retiring to Antigua on the proceeds will have to wait for another day.
