...a good quality road chain and screw on 5 speed freewheel block for my winter project?

Father Christmas may be supplying the said items so qualitycan for once take recedence over price...

Thanks in advance,

Goldie

Freewheels and Chains.

Most makes are available in 5 speed - Campag, Regina, Shimano, Suntour - just have to hunt them down.

Chains, I used Sedis BITD, not sure they're available anymore but I bought a dozen a while back at a jumble (£36.00 the lot, nice silver ones too).

I keep a small stock of freewheels, the kind of thing I always buy at jumbles or on here.

Roadking.

Thanks rk. I've asked the internet - Sedis are still going, still making roller chains and they seem to have a UK subsidiary, but I can't find any evidence that they proactively market their chains to the cycle industry. I'll definitely keep an eye out though - there's lots of positive comments floating about concerning quality and longevity, and that's what I'm after - something absolutely bulletproof that won't get its knickers in a twist if I grind up big hills on it.

I quite like the look of these Wipperman chains that SJS Cycles stock http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/chains-5-6-7 ... pt259_pg1/ - again, there's lots of positive comments floating about and they seem to actually manufacture in the EU, which is always a bonus. Be good to hear any other recommendations ...

Wippermann chains aren't cheap, but you do get your money's worth. The Connex 808 is about the best, as ones below it in price lack the reusable Powerlink style connector. Made in Germany, as far as I know.
