Can anyone help me date or id this frame

Hi i have just joined the forum and would really appreciate any advice you can give me,

I stripped the components from this frame, And now I really want to find out how old it is etc.

Hopefully some pictures are attached.

I was wondering If you might have any advice on how to id the model/date etc.

The components are all 76-78 but I have a strong feeling the frame is older than that. I also suspect the forks may not be original.


Distinguishing features : -

Frame number G 20612

Full Wrap around seat stays
Plain-ish but quality lug work
long 40mm dropouts
tourer rear rack mounts
1 braze only (rear mech cable guide located top of tube)
Poss original Red and white paint

The Forks

Are half chromed with a white pin-stripe and have chromed campagnolo stamped drop outs, however they also have signs of metallic blue under the red/ white and I suspect they were painted to match the frame.

Also the lugs on the forks have a fancy heart shape and there is no fanciness or chrome to be seen on the frame itself?

Shouldn't both front and rear dropouts be campagnolo if the frame and forks are a true set?

Hi, I would start looking at Falcon / Coventry eagles from late sixties / early seventies. The seat pin diameter will help to determine if its 531. Good luck, Terry

I was also thinking Falcon all the ones from that period are full campag but I guess maybe some wally like me stripped it it

The top end were campag, but there is a sliding scale, my old Coventry Eagle was similar to your frame, but had a Campag velox / centre pull weinmann setup and straight 531 on two tubes. Try and track down some old catalogues on the web. Terry

Isn't that a Raleigh/Carlton/BSA top wrap-over?

Personally I'd go with Carlton given the wrapover which isn't flattened but round........

Thanks for the replies, I think i will look again tommorow I have been staring at the pc screen fro almost 24 hours trying to figure it out.taken 4 parecetemol to get rid of the headache from eye strain.

I think I'll sleep on it and check out Carlton's tommorow. I have already searched for falcon and Coventry Eagle brochures but no match.

The fork crown doesn't quite match, but most of the other details seem to...

That's a Raleigh Gran Turismo belonging to Retrobike/UCW stalwart knowthejo, but Raleigh used similar features on a few models at the time.
