Failure isnt the issue for me with Alu - I am a light rider and have only broken two frames in my life - it’s the terrible ride characteristics. getting beaten up by your bike is the tail wagging the dog.
It’s not so bad off-road - but on the road it’s just horrible given the time in the saddle and tyres.
Still - if someone had an 90/91 Klein Attitude Dolomite available I wouldn’t say no…or an S1 Cervelo - always wanted to ride those. Unlikely they would ever be “go to” bikes though.
Like most on the forum - I have probably seen more Alu failures than anything else - but mostly in the early 90s where things were a bit fast and loose on frame design.
