Campagnolo friction shifters can anyone confirm type?

Velobase is certainly losing its ground as a viable source of information for "variant" campagnolo. I have 5 pieces of early Campagnolo not on there. I just hope they keep up the good work and find time to start cataloguing this ever growing list of variants.

Laz.

You can join and add items yourself, very easy to do.

Hi Ned :-) Never thought of joining, but did drop them a few emails that got ignored so I just moved on. Used to be a big part of several sites, but after a while most site owners regardless of the topic/site genre get overwhelmed by requests for this that and tother and it slows the progress of the site down.

I honestly feel that whilst Velobase has established itself as a sort of Campagnolo Mecca, it has many flaws in its design, but moreover its content.

Too many pics, not enough info about the pics, hard for non campagnolo people to get their heads around which model belongs to what era. Take Chorus for example.

I see a multitude of Athena listed items on Ebay that are Chorus, and vice versa, but in reality Chorus chainsets beautifully bulge up to the crankbolt hole/area, and Athena doesn't, but its not mentioned anywhere on Velobase.

Not nitpicking, just that such simple info belongs there to hold the main idea together that Velobase catalogues as many brands as possible for future reference, that is easily understood by the less retro bike savvy.

I'm sure they'll get it right one day, but by then the web itself would have moved on. Like all sites out there, you have to keep your finger on the pulse or lose your audience.

I might try joining see how it goes :-) Later Ned, yours Laz.

I think the problem is that people who have an odd item take a photo and list it without really knowing what the item actually is and without any detailed information about it. There are also lots of duplications. The 'Comments' part does allow for extra info to be added - if anyone has any - and Jon does try to update as and when possible. At least, if an item is listed, it indicates that it does exist!

I've added several items in the past but my problem is that the site does not recognise me when I try to log-on, even with new passwords that Jon has issued to me. I've sort of lost interest due to this but do visit quite frequently to see what's new.

Ditto, I've had recurring problems also. When I returned to log back in afew times after setting it to remain so I'd been logged out (don't know if it was a set time between visits etc) However didn't want to know even with password to hand.

Exactly.

Its hard running a website, .... very. I used to build them and run them back in the late 90's early 2000's, thats why I sympathise with whoever is the main man of Velobase.

The main concept of Velobase is 100% excellent, but if whoever owns it doesn't get it up up and away in the next year or so, someone else will, right off the back of ALL the work Velo have done.

Like most in here I've been riding Campagnolo since the 70's, but it was only 2 years ago I decided to immerse myself in trying to become a Campagnolo Millionaire (someone with far too much Campagnolo and only 1 pair of legs).

I got a banging headache for a year trying to second guess my own knowledge on what I actually owned because I had found Velobase. They get it right 95% of the time, but when a wrong post becomes FACT, then it screws all the "trust" that everyone has in them. It is this they really need to get on top of. Win that war, and they have the world in their own hands.

God knows the world needs somewhere to clarify the mess Campagnolo have caused with down grades, side grades, upgrades. I hope they go for a simple timeline format. It will eradicate ALL confusion because anomolies will stick out like a sore thumb when next to each other.

Alphabetical cataloguing rarely works especially on the web. Timeline cataloguing does. It allows instant identification within a genre & within a groupset upgrade/downgrade.

The glitch you 2 guys are having is probably cookie based. Cookies often have a life span to prevent someone else using an open password. Could also be they are using a section of "weak" code. If the code is weak (old fashioned) newer softwares (especially windows updates) outlaw their use, so the site crashes/malfunctions. Tis an never ending battle to keep up to date with web codes.

Later guys, yours Laz.
