Campag 10s ergo/Shimano 8 compatibility

Ok so this is half retro!

Are 10 speed ergo shifters compatible with an otherwise 8 speed Shimano set up? I've heard somewhere that they do work ok together.

I'm sorry if it's been on here before, couldn't find it.
