i heard that you have to put good tape around it first?

just a quick update incase anyone gets this type of gear outer cable. yep put some electricans tape around the cable and use your diamond disc cutter and bob's yer uncle .cap fit over the end a treat..

Is the derailleur hanger straight? Often a problem when you can't get derailleurs shifting well. If you carried it into a shop with an alignment tool they could probably check it within a few minutes.

The other thing to check is your routing of the cable innerwire under and through the anchor bolt. They will sometimes shift poorly if you wrapped the cable around the anchor bolt plate instead of straight under the bolt/plate.

Don't want to get too wrapped up in a hijack. . . but . . .

I can shift it up and down through all the gears, 100%..
then the sprog rides the bike and, when she gets home, 2nd is 3rd, can't get into 1st, 8th sounds like it might run off the end but settles down in a couple of seconds..
The cable routing is cool, nice round loop at the back and straight from the stop/adjuster under the clamp (although, the adjuster thingy is a little bent - could that be significant?)
