There's a thread in the history somewhere regarding this and one of the finest cable cutters out there is model 6300 manufactured by a company called Midwest. This company purchased the former Wiss tool company that manufactured metal snips. You can purchase them online from many hardware and tool e-tailers and they are very affordable and last a long time. Can be used for both housing and innerwires. Shop quality tool at half the price of a Shimano tool and holds it's edge longer. I paid less than $20 for mine at a Sears store but see them often sold just under $40 so it pays to shop around.

Yeah, I remember those / that thread :D but I had a good look last time I was in the states and couldn't find them - only the more traditional style tin snips :-(

Yes, I would agree 8)

Only used them on 2mm cables, gear cables and gear housing :D

The 6mm brake housing got the dremel treatment :

Nice finish 8)

Mine are a little more 'industrial' to behold. . . but they work fine and the end cap covers all ills ;)
