Buying and selling (slightly contentious content)

I always sell to first with the cash, it's the fairest way. I make it clear in my for sale threads.

I reckon this is best policy, what annoys me is folks placing dibs on things then pulling out, cash only then its sold.

i came to this site and had a good old lurk. i thought i was on my own in this retro world and was looking for pace forks. my mate suggested the for sale section. i am not massively active on the site but i am on here many times a day having a read and a look. my bikes are not worth thousands but i am as into this "scene" as all the big names on this forum.

as for people only coming here to sell, i cant see that as a problem as long as they are not here to scam. as someone already pointed out, its better for sale on here than on ebay. also more ads may well brig=ng more people to buy and then become active members of this forum. which isnt a bad thing in my book.

I've sold odds n sods to the first buyer with the right amount.

I've just sold my first proper retro build on here and am quite nervous....

I've always sold to the 1st person with the correct cash.
On a similar thing, a photography forum i use will let you buy from your 1st post. However you need to be registered for 30 days and 100 posts to be able to sell. The only downside of this being we may potentially miss out on some rare stuff if we implimented a similar system here

Good honest thread, Huntso.

Using a que system seems to be the most appropriate and appreciated, but this is where terms must also be met. Perhaps the lurker/less favored member, is not willing to meet your terms in regards to shipping cost or time, then it is perfectly reasonable to move on to the more veteren/favored member, all while using your best judgement.

btw, does this have anything to do with the panaracer magics? If so, no hard feelings however you decide. IT cool with me man- I still like your Marin

I don't mind doing dibs, and have already done so. IT was frustrating because I had a sure buyer that I had already done business with on here, but had to make him wait a cople days while other that called dibs backed out....even so, I still had a couple members complain about the que order, though I was trying to be as fair as possible- I had members contact me via pm and not post on the thread, but I still had to include them in the que.

Then I had been assured by one member that he would buy another item and was as steady/sure as they come at following through- he just needed a few days to get the cash into his paypal; a week passes, then he tells me an emergency came up, and he would not be able to purchase them.

See, if that member were to call dibs on another item, I might not take him seriously, and instead go to the next person to call dibs in the que....and be well within my rights, not to mention in the right, to do so.

First come first served when I'm selling.. at the end of the day, if someone wants to give me what I'm asking for then I dont care who gives it to me!

As for helping out fellow 'regular' members, I try to do that by going through the Wated section before listing my stuff in the For Sale section.

Buying.....well, thats a different story now after getting my fingers burnt in the alkabone saga :( I am now scared to buy from Newbies. Sorry if you are one.....we were all one once.....but in today's 'scammer' society I am now cautious.

Seems like the majority agree in first come first gets the shiny stuff.

There are those special bits though that somehow deserve a special home and the relationships that people build up on here chatting and buying and selling somehow make you want to sell to a 'good' home. I am sure that is why there is a 'Readers' Kit' section, so the bling can be put out there and then the deal can be done with PMs. (Only kidding!)

What he said! :) (plus it's really annoying when you've been searching for something for ages, but aren't first to the for-sale post!)

But if you put up a for sale thread, first come first served is fairest.
