Buying and selling (slightly contentious content)

There are those special bits though that somehow deserve a special home

the thing is though, how do you know it is going to a special home? a newbie will be just as apreciative of a special part than a regular. more so perhaps as they are new to the retro scene and will be over the moon to get their stuff, just like me when i bought a set of cooks cranks off jerky. as a more regular forum user i probably wont be as appreciative to by my second pair as i realise now they are being traded more regularly than i thought.

the day i sent the money and the day i received the cranks, i was the most apreciative bloke on this forum guaranteed

very very interesting thread. I don't think that there is a right and wrong way of selling. Lots of ideas mentioned on here that I like, some I do sme I don't.

I don't think we need any more rules on here to be honest, the vibe here is just right. If everyone were honest, and did what they said they would do it would all be fine.

There have been some scammers, and we have weeded them out before. Follow the guidelines on here for selling and you should be ok.

Personally I woud like to think that if I knew that a member was looking for something I would offer it to them, then scan the last 2 weeks worth of Wanted items before putting something up for sale. I will give anyone the benefit of the doubt, and if they don't get back to you in a reasonable time, tell them you are going to persue an alternative buyer and do it. Don't try and bounce people off each other to try and get a better price, and don't try to increase the price after you have advertised it.

As a seller, try not to jump onto a sale as soon as you see it unless it really is the item you thought it was and have the. cash.

But like I said, you can't impose rules for selling on a forum like this, it would nevere be the same again! [Good discussion if I haven't already said it]

I've just sold my first proper retro build on here and am quite nervous....

Why are you nervous??

'cos I was worried you wouldnt like it or something would snap or you'd fly up in the air or something...

Its not an entirely accurate build and some people could be fernickety.

I dunno..

I was like that when I built a single seater then we sold it  its different when its for yourself ( even though there is no difference?!? if that makes sense? )

First come first served when I'm selling.. at the end of the day, if someone wants to give me what I'm asking for then I dont care who gives it to me!

As for helping out fellow 'regular' members, I try to do that by going through the Wated section before listing my stuff in the For Sale section.

Buying.....well, thats a different story now after getting my fingers burnt in the alkabone saga :( I am now scared to buy from Newbies. Sorry if you are one.....we were all one once.....but in today's 'scammer' society I am now cautious.

IS there a link to the alkabone saga? I'm a bit curious.
