Wow- wasn't expecting a set of these to come up. . . I assume these were Andrews from Yetifan. . .? There were 4 sets of these forks made, one for Geoff Ringlé (Ringlé components), one for John Grafton (Grafton Performance), one for John Parker (Yeti), and I assume one set stayed at Penske. These are from about '93 or so. I understand Andrew had the set from John Parker, yes?
Paul Tracy was racing Indy car with Penske, as well as racing for Yeti, so this was a project with Penske's involvement, to try and build the ultimate front end. . Ringlé made the straight pull hub, Grafton did the cable operated hydraulic disc caliper, and a matching carbon disc rotor for the hub (and obviously the Al one you have here, that I've never seen before), and it was all destined to hang on an ARC AS/LT. I was asking so much for my as it is unused, with the carbon brake, and a red hub built onto a carbon HED rim. I'm umming and ahhing about putting on my ARC AS/Lt, but if someone buys it, that takes away that decision. . . Now, as it was '93 and nobody had really done proper DH stuff, and through axles were still the stuff of motorcycles, the front end was a bit flexy. So I also have a Ringle special through axle (non-QR) for mine too. Really great museum stuff.
I have all the development hubs that led up to this too, and these helped influence the (also very rare) straight pull ti-stix hubs (as featered on a rather nice Hei Hei on this site). The Ti-stix hubs only ran for a season, prior to the Sun takeover, and were dropped as they were so expensive. As happened with a lot of the brands, post takeover- there was a 'watering down' of the brand.
I 'll get around to popping a timeline of development kit in the users parts section some time soon, so everyone can have a little look at some of the development parts that have helped get us where we are today; )
cheers mate,
