Buckled rubber issues

I've had two sets of brand new tyres lately where the actual rubber seems to have a fault in the pattern which makes you think the wheel is buckled but it's the actual tyre tread seems like to have a dodgy pattern in it. I thought it would ride out after the tyres had been on a bit but it doesn't seem to be going and I can see the actual mould of the tyre out of line when I turn the wheel slowly. Has anyone else had this?? Is it cheap rubber. It's happened on a brand new set of Hutchinson 26 and WTB 700s 🤔

Is it the mould pattern or could it be the issue I struggled with recently, which was the tyre not seating properly on the rim! Check the tyre bead at the rim on both sides and see if it is uniformly seated. If not, you'll get the effect of a seemingly buckled wheel.

Usually greater air pressure forces the tyre in place, but in my case it needed a helping hand with manipulation and some lubricant (gt85 I think I used around the tyre bead and rim).

Are you sure they’re seated correctly in the rim?
There was a recent discussion about the problems getting tubeless tyres to seat…

Beaten to it…. See above

Ive got 2 sets of tyres, one wtb one continental. Both are an absolute arse to get to sit on the beads straight. The continental will go with a compressor and 80 psi. The wtb, just wont. They get pretty straight, but wont fully seat. This situation seems to be getting worse the more tubeless (read tighter to get over the rim) tyres are coming out.
The continentals i run with slime tubes as they are soooooo tight I can't get them off on the side of the road as they need soap, 15 levers, gloves, bomb blast etc to even start to prise them off 🤣.

Try shoving them on a compressor or a garage air line, pref with a bit of soap solution round the bead to make them more slippery. Try not to jump when they go bang as they seat....i always do. 🤣

Ear defenders and specs a must.....seriously....as if it goes tits up its loud and not good.

You should hear an old motorbike tyre blow! 😂

Thanks folks - I'll have a closer look at how they are seated and try again I reckon. I'll deflate and check and inflate - they do seem to be getting better as I ride but feels frustrating feeling the non circular effect in both wheels as you freewheel. I'll get my lube out then 😃🤔

I had the same experience with a fresh pair recently. The hassle made me mad and I trew them away. Pity, but in my experience there are enough tires around that do work.

Maxxis have been horrendous for this in recent years, particularly the 2.5" DH Assegai. At one point some of the World Cup teams were selecting one good one from every three. Given the cost of these things now exceeds mid-range car tyres you'd expect better. It does happen on every tyre, and does too on car tyres, but Maxxis seem by far and away the worst culprits.
