Bryan Chapman Memorial Audax - 650km's in 37 hours or so.

Retrobike Rider
I rode the Bryan Chapman at the weekend, had a blast, 650km's from Chepstow to Menai and back.

Went over the Elan Valley with Simon as a bit of an extra detour.

Over the Barmouth Bridge and up the coast to Menai via Pen-Y-Pass.

Had a baked potato and turned around.

Left Kings YHA in Dolgellau after 2 hours sleep and breakfast.

Got back to Chepstow at about 18:30 sunday evening. Rode it on the over polished De Rosa with a bag of smoked salmon on focaccia sandwiches.

Good fun, here's the route: http://www.strava.com/activities/143567690

Dave - It wasn't as bad as it sounds, but it does sound a long way when you think about it so it's best not to think about it and just pedal.

I'm trying to convince Johnny Squal to do one before the Retro Ronde as it finishes 30km's from Oudenaarde Sunday morning.

How did you keep your Garmin going that long?

I've got a rechargeable battery pack in my bar bag that I can plug in to my Garmin and phone when needed. The Garmin 800 will still record and give directions when it has an external power supply.

You have to reset the Garmin 800 at about 400km's as it has a hissy fit and crashes otherwise.

I'm using these on rides unto 400km's and they will keep a Garmin 800 and an iPhone 4 running Strava going for about 19 hours plus a bit more.

On the 600 + I'm either taking two of the above and I also have a PNY which I had to buy from Currys  as I forgot the RS ones. Very expensive but it's 7800 mAh and weighs 100 g less than two from RS. I'm still testing that one, but I might take it back as I don't think it's as good.
