after years of bike riding i have finally got my self a brooks saddle.
i did a swap with a lad in work.
i fitted it to ride home and it feels like i need to get used to it.
what are the opinions of brooks users.
i have heard they are the best saddles ever, and they improve with age ?
i suppose only time will tell.

I acquired a few on bikes over the years and did not like them at all. But having a battered B17 Standard on the shelf and a bike without a saddle I fitted it as a temporary measure.....and a year later I wouldn't swop it for any other! And bought a newer one.

None of the earlier trys were "B17 Standards" so I guess it's just that model that suits me. Trouble is, can be an expensive processs of elimination finding "the right one"!

The problem with second hand brooks is they mould to the riders arse, so when you get one like the pictured one, which has been well used, it fits someone elses arse. Not your own.
You can clearly see where the sit bones have stretched the leather to fit the rider who broke it in.
If you have the same shape arse you might be ok, but once a saddle is properly worn in, I can't see it ever fitting someone else properly. :?

as above second hand ones need oiling to soften enough to allow for some one elses ass, I have two b17's one second hand standard and one b17 special I bought new about three years ago, the new one is far more comfy than the used one
I also have a b17 narrow and this is one of the worst saddles I have used, still I have a wide rear end
I suppose its like buying shoes if they dont fit correctly they dont work,
heres my special it gets swapped from bike to bike,

another point is set up they must be precise to get the full benefit from it,
still if you buy one you wont loose money on it the demand is quite high.

I also have a couple of B17 saddles. One was new and the other second hand.
The trick to 'breaking them in' is to run the tension quite slack and make sure you keep the saddle well oiled with Proofide to keep the leather nice and soft while it moulds into the shape of your behind.

They are incredibly comfortable once you get used to them, or rather they get used to you.

ive gota very very old sprint saddle from brooks, was a friends old un who ruled time trial and road races many moons ago, kinda dont want to fit it and ruin it..........yet  , would look outta place on my road bike tho.

thinking about getting one for the pace when the turbo shits itself to bits, but thatll be the last saddle i buy i rek :D
