Broken hip...

Ouch, sorry to hear that, i hope you recover quickly.

I had a motorcycle accidenf 2 years ago, i broke my hip, my pelvis in 3 places, my shoulder blade, arm, 10 ribs on one side, and a few other bones along with internal damage. You will have no trouble with riding bikes, in fact riding will help build up the muscle and help to get it all working again, like it has for me. And they say that broken bones grow back stronger, plus, like me you are now screwed toghether and even more indestructable :xmas-big-grin:

Get well soon

Mark

It does make you think about riding alone. It must have been a painful hobble back to the car too, hope your recovery is speedy.
I'm currently recovering from my pelvis being broken in 3 places just over 3 months ago. The idea of ever sitting on a flite again seems like an impossibility right now! I can only just sit on a sofa currently
But we will heal again, the human body is an amazing thing.

Anyway back on topic, hope you have a speedy recovery Adrian
Perhaps you'll finish those builds whilst your off work and treat us all to some updates

Re:

They tell me that I got run down from behind by two teenagers racing their firms vans.

Loads of broken bones in both legs, a foot and one hand were the result but the most worrying injuries were a dislocated knee and ankle. Umpteen operations, physio, wheelchairs, crutches, and sticks together with enough titanium plates and screws to build a frame the doctors told me to give up impact sports (tennis, running etc) and just swim and cycle. Some of the best advice I have been given and the thought of getting back on the bike again got me through some very dark days indeed.

Some highlights in my recovery were being able to get over centre when pedalling an exercise bike and being able to "ride it" standing up. Later Mrs Shedobits stepthrough bike came in handy as the only bike I could use.

Since then I've won a few XC races in my cat and have recently tried walking football.

So far I can't tell if it's going to rain but a dropper post drops too far for the 120 degree max bend in my knee. Sometimes I do ride alone but always let the boss know where I'm going.

Anyway that's my experience and good luck with a full and speedy recovery.

Had a bit of an off the other day, landed badly and broke my hip

Luckily only a mile into the ride so managed to get back to the car and mobile reception - makes you think about riding alone though!

Despite the fracture being displaced they decided to fix it with canulated screws to avoid a full hip replacement. I've got 12 weeks non load bearing on crutches to give it the best chance of healing. :(

Anyone on here had anything similar? How much is biking effected long term?

I cracked my hip socket 2years ago. a 12mile ride before mobile reception kicked in was kinda painful.
stick to the docs advice, zero load bearing & it'll heal fine. I had 10 weeks on crutches, 2 weeks gentle walking, back on the bike, but taking it really easy low gear gentle spinning after 14weeks. 22weeks later I was riding 100miler mtb rides in the brecon beacons. I hope that info makes you feel better, it's always scary having a long term injury & wondering if you'll be able to ride properly again. sympathy from me as getting on with crutches in the meantime is a total P.I.T.A

hang in there, being off the bike sucks, I found distraction & keeping busy helped a lot. but as long as you keep the weight off, you'll be fine.

Thanks for all the posts guys, it really helps getting the positive messages, sounds like many of you have had much more serious issues than me and have got back in the saddle OK, LGFs man flue sounds particularly nasty!

The riding alone bit is always tricky, this time I had told the Mrs where/how long but don't always, probably will now!

That is some recovery! I bet the 12 miles smarted a bit!

This injuries sound very unpleasant - I hope they caught the chaps that took you out.

I don't think he was joking ;) Get yourself a nice Scott though and he might talk to you!!

At least I don't have to get up early to book a HONC entry, pity though as it sounds like they are going to mix it up a bit this year.....

Flipping heck - quite a collection on top of the hip, good skills recovering from that!

Still motorcycling? I sold mine about 5 years back when the family started, keep hankering after another one.

Re:

Hope to see you at Mayhem 2017... even if just in a social capacity

drop the family of at the inlaws and come on up, I'm sure we'll find you a comfy pew and a few spare beers that need sinking.

Yes, i bought a KTM 530exc to go greenlaning as part of my therapy :D

I feel kind of bad for my 7 yr old as i had promised my bike to her when she grew up, now wrote off, it was the first proper words she spoke, "Aprilia mille" after "dada"
