Brodie Nucleus

Dirt Disciple
Today I received the last two packages containing my 1997 Brodie Nucleus.
I was quite happy when i put it together but due to the sloping top tube it seems very small.
The distance center BB to top of seat tube is 46cm, center BB to center top tube is 40cm. When I put my Giant Cadex frame beside it i was very surprised. The Giant frame measures 48cm from center BB to axis of top tube and 51,5cm from center BB to top of seat tube.
Although the hight is very different the length of the frame is pretty much the same.
My leg length is about 83cm which would lead to a frame size of 46-48cm. But as it seems so low I'm not sure if it fits me. I will need to get some pedals on it and ride it ;-)

Top tube

I wouldn't worry, it's the difference between a "real" MTB and a road bike that looks like an MTB.
If your tackling any terrain with serious slopes on it, you need the additional top tube clearance.

My last mtb ride in the forest was really too long ago as I've noticed today. It was much more fun than I've expected at -5°C 8)
The bike rides really great but there are a few things I didn't like very much.

The left Sti is not very smooth and I was not able to shift to the biggest chainring. The shift and brake cables need to be replaced as well as the brake pads. Beside this the handle bar is a bit too high for me also the saddle definitely needs to go ;)

I really like the color of the frame but the silver components don't suite it very good. Maybe some satin block will do better...

and the last one...

What I really like about this bike is the "silent clutch" rear hub. When not pedaling it's completely silent.

hi
nice bike. original silver brodie parts look good on it. but if you don't like how it feels. change it. i have a 2000 brodie i'm in the process of doing the same thing. stem was too steep. seat post too short.
ride it and enjoy it!!! :)

Nice bike :)

Love the fact it has a canti tube/bridge & a V brake cable stop 8)
I also think the silver suits it fine but agree that that saddle should go.
