Long time ago I realise but just found this thread,love a bit of word history type stuff.
Was told a long time ago that during WW1,women (when not coal mining/filling shells) would make up Red Cross (or similar) parcels for the poor lads in the trenches.They would,apparently,hand roll cigarettes and put them in a packet,then write For All Good Soldiers on them.
Like to think it's true but then there's plenty of myths kicking about.
