British Cycling or CTC?

Re:

I went BC as it was cheaper. I also found out that the CTC are trying to suggest that they are "the" cycling organisation which I think is presumptuous. It annoyed me. I also found out that they are more interested in campaigning than touring which annoyed me as well. Silly maybe but enough to make me change.
Irrational points aside they are much the same regarding cover.

If you intend to tour, the CTC is a mine of information for members on routes, etc especially further afield. I'm not sure where you got the impression of campaigning rather than touring - both seem pretty strong to me.

Re:

I don't intend to race, I'm highly unlikely to tour, I really just want public liability insurance and some additional legal cover.

Seems a bit much of a muchness to me.

Comes down to cost then

Typical email from CTC! Never heard of such letters being sent out by BCF..........

Here's a round up of Road Justice campaign news.

More and longer driving bans needed

We reiterated our call for more and longer driving bans on radio stations across the UK last week after BBC Radio 1 released figures showing that 1 in 4 drivers who are convicted of killing a cyclist do not get banned from driving. This compares to 1 in 5 drivers convicted of killing any road user type.

The figures were released the day after a dangerous drink-driver was banned from driving for only six years and imprisoned for four years for killing a Sheffield cyclist. Mick Nott, chair of CycleSheffield, attended the sentencing on behalf of the Road Justice campaign. He wrote an excellent blog post about the facts of the case, the sentence imposed, and his experience of being in court.

Bristol leads the way in police engagement

Bristol Cycling Campaign have been doing a sterling job working with Avon and Somerset police to improve roads policing and road collision investigations. They’ve set up a working group to monitor progress and have become recognised stakeholders. Read this best practice case study of how they’re campaigning for Road Justice.

If you have engaged with your local force on Road Justice issues and would like to share your successes and lessons learned, please send an email to [email protected]

Local campaigner training

All Road Justice supporters are invited to take part in campaigner training days that CTC is going to hold in the autumn in cities across the UK. The training will cover topics including: how to use social media for campaigning; running effective campaign groups; understanding the legal framework; attending court cases; and working with the police.

Thank you for your support.

I'm a BC member and have found them helpful when we have had questions to help with club issues.

Joining CTC currently gives you a 15% discount on English Heritage membership, if that appeals
It doesn't, but thanks.

It would seem that CTC are major campaigners, where as BCF are a sporting organisation, funding current and future riders.
