Breezer XTR

I start by saying I mean no offence, and that is a beautiful bike.

I have until recently had wanted ads and listed in my signature that I was after a Lighting (or Cloud 9) - and that very model as it happens.

However, as I was pointing out in the original seller's ad:

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... er&start=0

Things are not quite right.

That is a 1992 frame for definite. There were two options available, XC Pro, and XTR - hence the designation 'XTR' on the top tube to differentiate between the models.

That is most definitely a later fork (I'd imagine '94 as it is still 1"). The original would have been threaded, and used a quill stem. For certain.

However, as it is it is still a very very nice bike and you should get a lot of fun from it!

Cheers,
BB.

I think BB is right. I hadn't noticed the rear-facing seat clamp, which relates to 93 and earlier. It must also be correct that the fork is a 94.

If I were fortunate enough to own it, that wouldn't bother me at all. The geometry is exactly the same, the quality of the fork is the same, it looks exactly right, ahead works better than threaded etc. All cool.

Hi BB.

Interested in your comments. I saw your post in the original ad and it prompted me to look over a few things once the bike arrived - especially the security of the stem! I have a friend who is having dental work done at the moment and it makes an addiction to the for sale section on this site look cheap. From what I have seen on a brochure posted on the Mombat site, the Lightning XTR came out in '92 In black the Pro in red. Prior to that the 91 Lightning was XT and again in red pearl. From this site and others I came to the conclusion that my serial starting with H1 indicated Hodaka 1991 which was built up into a 2002 model year bike. I think you could be bang on about the fork being from a later bike. 1994 lists the stem as a force lite threadless. Frames are the same for 92 & 94 - Ritchey Prestige. Just read the above and I am going to need a bobble hat at this rate.... Anyway as long as it all stays together I should be OK. All the info I have was from the net so who knows if it is 100% accurate but the brochures are a good guide.

Beautiful bike :) one on my list for sure,, Just to let you know I'm running a Threaded Logic fork on a ahead set up , and have been for two years without any problems or concern.. :):)

Hi,
-I don't remember which year is the fork  , but it's an original 1" unthreaded Breezer, originally blue, professionally resprayed.
-I use several 1" unthreaded foks with 1" 1/8th stem since many years without any problems, must me be tightened correctly. I've a 1" 1/8th Ritchey ProLite on the shed, that's why i used it (it's on my American Eagle today)
-The only two (or three :?: ) Lightning XTR i've seen the last years haven't any stickers on the left side of the top tube (so are some examples of Lightning frames)
-Two years ago, i've send an email to Breezer bikes with the frame number, but i've never had an answer

Martin

Hi Martin - that all makes sense now. This is why there are traces of blue under the canti mounts. The Breezer is all together now, lizard skin on and tyres changed. Ready for its debut ride at the weekend. Can't wait!
