brake pads for steel rims - which are the best?

From experience no brake blocks any good on steel rims unless the rims braking surface is milled especially useless in the wet as I know to my gut tightening horror on a wet steep descent. Leather faced are the traditional blocks for steel rims, marginally better but its a slim margin. Drum brakes are better with steel rimmed wheels. Good luck

The best brake for a steel rim is concrete. A large block, on a rope. Throw it over the side, making sure the rope is tied to the seatpost.

Seriously, you are on to a loser, soft rubber or leather seem to be preferred, but they are all terrible.

For steel rims you need a hard abrasive pad and LOTS of power. Think about the disc brake pads.

Would ceramic specific pads be suitable for steel rims?
