brake fluid and seal compatability

MTB Disc brakes are available using at least 2 different types of brake fluid: Dot 5.1 = car stuff (avid, hope, formula) or mineral oil (shimano and magura).

But both of them use seals of some sort - the brake hoses are compatible with both systems.

Question is: what would happen to the seals if mineral oil was used in a system design for DOT fluid?

Anyone tried this?

If you put hydraulic fluid (DOT5.1) in a Magura rim brake mineral oil system then you'll knacker the seals.

... actually I was thinking of doing it the other way round i.e. putting mineral oil into say avid bake system?
