So is that extra gusset above the bottom bracket an extra weld or repair? Anybody have a picture of this part from another Defiant Ti?

The weld bead looks larger on this section than on the other parts of the frame. Would be a bummer if it had been cracked.

Speculations? Anyone?

looks a bit strange indeed, must say all the welds look a bit tatty compared to the Intrepid

To be fair, the Defiant is polished, which will always show more weld detail than a satin finished Ti frame - I actually think the welds are quite nice on most of the bike; but that gusset looks like it was welded in by a blind monkey, so I'm thinking repair, possibly why the price is not going sky high.
