Bought my first road bike today, not highend but a nice Claude Butler from around the early 80's, not too heavy and the frame has a nice ping when you flick it.

colour and headbadge look like this...

Wienmann 999 brakes and a simplex rear mech. (it's a 5 speed)

I'm making a winter commute bike but want to make it so it will do some real miles in the summer I need to skim some weight off it for that so it will be getting the dura-ace hubbed wheels john gave me and the brooks b15 saddle I picked up for £2 not that this is light.

I'll put up picks later, but for £15 I'm quite pleased.

The place had loads of old bikes to choose from all at £15, but I don't know much about them - I assume they are all mostly low range stuff but here are some names...

Sun (of nottingham)
Triumph
Marlborough
Murray USA
Karlhoff
Dawes 531 Tourer (bit too rusty for me)

Quite a few 80's raleighs too
I just took the lightest one I could find that fitted me.

Excellent

For that price mate you cant go wrong.
It sounds good and you seem happy with it so for £15 its a bargain.
Post up some pics.

Good start! Let them coming.

For me it is also only 2yrs ago when I got my 1st roadbike.

Cool, get some pics up buddy. Was this the place in Dundee?

yes it is but it is only open monday to friday during work hours - it does have a shop in town for bike they have refurbished themselves but they cost a lot more .... like £25 :) - apparently I missed a steel bianchi for £65 about a month back :( - they also have a sm400 cannondale - what is that worth kaiser - frame and forks are perfect?

I've got a similar vintage 531 Claude Butler that I've built up as a fixie. It's a brilliant, relaxed ride. My frame was designed for 27" rather than 700c wheels so I had an issue with brakes that had enough drop on them to reach. 30 minutes furtling had a DIY drop bolt made and life was good!
