Dear All,
In the process of restoring an old Gillott road bike and converting to fixed gear. I've hit a slight issue which I hope you may be able to help with.
The frameset already has an old TA BB fitted with square tapered axle. However, I've got a rather nice Williams C1200 chain/crankset that i'd like to use so i'll need a cottered axle.
Can I keep the existing BB and simply swap the axle for a cottered one or will I need to swap out the whole lot?
In addition, how do I go about measuring for a new axle? I've seen a number of vintage axles on Ebay but have no idea what length I need.
Finally, if I decided I couldn't be ar*ed to do all this myself and wanted an expert to do it for me; who might I approach? (within, say, a couple of hours drive from Newbury, Berks...)
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Tubby Geoff
