Bottom bracket advice sought

Hi all,
I will admit that my knowledge of bottom brackets does not go beyond square tapered cartridge that can be removed with a Shimano tool.

As a result I am hoping someone can give me some advice and or information on this beauty. The bike it is fitted to is a 94 Marin if that helps.

As always any help or advice is appreciated.

A “c” spanner will be the cheaper option but prone to slippage in my experience.

Something like this may be more suitable but expensive for a one time use.

Loosen the lock ring with the spanner and then use pin spanner’s on the bearing cups would be my understanding. I’m not expert in these, was the bike running xtr or something similar?
