Fisher Prometheus
And may I present the bike that started it all off for us. . . that love hate affair with anodising. Back in 1991, it was pretty hard to build an all black accesorised bike, let alone with colours. So when John Grafton and Geoff Ringlé cane up with that oh-so-vivid anodising that we now all know and love, and all take for granted, can I present to you, the first ever showcase for Purple. Geoff Ringlé's Fisher Prometheus
1991, with as complete a Grafton/ Ringlé groupset as was possible at the time. On a stunning and oh-so-rare Ti Fisher. A proper Fisher from back in the day.
Geoff had said to me that if they let him in, he'd consider giving the bike to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. When the likes of Geoff Lindsay and John Parker are all in there, how the guy who basically gave us Billet CNC from '89 and purple from '91; who later side-stepped Kozo Shimano's patents for some of the best, most robust and innovative hubsets around; and who produced such innovation but started a revolution for the humble quick-release, and basically started to give us the aftermarket is anyones guess. Even the sheet-metal bottle-cage was a stroke of never-copied genius.
Anway, the picture isn't great I'm afraid as I took this at Geoffs house just before Christmas, not anticipating tabling it here for you guys. But the boss says other peoples bikes are welcome. I can't claim this is mine, but I can claim to have touched the bike that gave us purple.. . just the damn brakes are round the 'wrong' way. .
