That's the badger!!

I wrap the cable clockwise but it rubs on the front dreailleur clamp a bit.. I think I have to sit down and move the mech around slightly so that a) it doesn't rub and b) it follows the chain line correctly..

...i collect bonty pics cos i'm weird like that.

No problem with that here! And I doubt if you're alone!!

Best solution I could imagine would be dismantle the pulley altogether and go for a top pull conventional mech.

just go top pull and problem sorted .

Leave it " as is " if you want the original spec dude. That little bit of rub will do no harm once you've minimised it with gentle mech positioning.
