The teachers at my oldest stepson's school are on strike tomorrow, which I don't agree with for a start, but we just received an email containing work for him to do tomorrow!!!!!! Now we have to do their job too!!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think ours are off on Thursday.. very much doubt they'll come home with work to do and I very much doubt they'd do it anyway..

If I wanted to home school the kids during the day, I would have taken that option..

Sorry it is Thursday, followed on Friday by GUESS WHAT?!?!?!? A BLOODY INSET DAY!!!!!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, if they had not been given work, would you be complaining that the days strike will effect your kid's education?

we just had a friday and a monday inset day last week and now thurs strike this week... although one kid has a teacher working (different union) the other is just going to have to come with me to work.

My mrs is a teacher loving the comments :? Like everyone else SHE has to pay childcare as the nipper is in a different school regarding training/strike ...And I do hope her pension is gold plated she pays enough into it and for what its worth she does not believe in striking and has no plans too. Its a just an occupation like anything else , She works hard and loves teaching kids and damn good at it too :roll: Painting everyone with the same brush is sad

The problem is the fact that a minority have pushed the majority to strike. I'm friends with a number of teachers young and old, and it's very interesting to see that, of them, it's the younger ones that are pushing for strikes and the older ones don't support it. I certainly don't want to tar all the teachers with the same brush, but unfortunately that seems to be what's happening in the mass media, the fact that only 1 in 5 teachers voted for action seems to have been brushed under the carpet.

Incidentally, these were the lad's word when he read the email, detailing the homework;

"If they're not working then neither am I!"

Can't say fairer than that!!!

Is it really? I mean, it doesn't make any difference to me whether the kids are at school or not but to some it'll be a major issue.. why should they not feel the same way about every teacher that is on strike? To them there's no difference.
The reality may be somewhat different (as in the case of your Wife), but that info won't be widely known.. the bottom line will be.

Makes me laugh when people say only 1 in 5 voted for it. The fact is that those that could be bothered to vote carried the ballot. If the other 4 in 5 didn't want to strike they should have ticked 'no' on the ballot form.

Facts are facts, the majority that actually used their vote wanted to strike, end of chat.
