Time for a final update  Love the cowhorns but I've decided that I'm never going to be happy with that rubbish wheelset and it really doesn't make sense to throw any more cash at something I've spent far too much time/money on already. It's been good - I've enjoyed retouching that lovely paint-job and cleaning up the parts and it's come a long way since it arrived in that battered packaging but it's time to move on. Most of the original kit has cleaned up nicely but it's still essentially a low-end build. Cheers to the retrobike folks who've helped me out with a few bits and pieces.

Spent yesterday evening restoring it to it's original stance and it looks pretty nice - new bottom bracket and grips fitted and the original bars resprayed . . .

I'll be putting it on the 'bay later this weekend to try to recoup some of my costs - I doubt it'll get much interest on here as it's not worth a lot but if any folks are interested then please get in touch. I'll hang on to the wheels - they'll be useful for holding up my next project at least

In the meantime . . . here we go again . . .

That's a cool little bike and I bet it will ride a lot better than the sort of junk you could get for what it may sell for.

Why not finish and atleast take it out for a decent jaunt, bet you come home in love with it ;)

(Warning, the above is why I always seem to have a bike shops worth of bikes and parts around the place!!!!!!)

Ha ha, yeh, that's why I'm loathe to finish it off really - I just know I'll end up being on the lookout for a pair of Mavic sunset wheels, Ody Black Widow pedals and XT shifters - this has got to stop

You should be able to source a decent pair of non crazy priced wheels, I have a bike on the way with decent bits including some which I will be Karma'ing such as some nice pedals, and there's nothing wrong with those shifters if they are working.

Don't let me stop you doing what you want though.

Nah, it has to go - I feel like another challenge and I have a one in, one out policy  I'll be hanging onto your cranks though Tim - they've tidied up a treat and are now sporting a single chainring - perfect for a retro DJ bike build maybe 8)

It's a shame your not keeping it as it's lovely looking bike and if it wasn't for having too many bikes stored as it is then i'd be asking for it for the mrs but alas i had one bike to many 2 bikes ago  so i need to get rid of at least the frame of the existing bike the mrs has before i collect any more but any way i fully understand and agree with your one in and one out policy and looking forward to your next project with great interest ..
