Blimey! £1,019 Hei Hei frame

Must admit I bid like that sometimes if I REALLY want something :? it usually works out o.k unless you end up bidding against someone who does the same

I bid on a 94 Kilauea a while back and got it for £260 ish, but my maximum bid was £600 as I REALLY wanted it  all it would have taken is someone else doing the same and it could have been very silly

I doubt somebody will pay that amount but you never know  bet it tempts a lot of people to dust off that old Kona they've had sitting in the garage for years though, so I suspect ebay to be awash with Kona Fire Mountains with a £1500 BIN very soon

There are many versions of snipe software available all claiming to help the bidder win an auction. Perhaps two or more bidders using these methods results in a selling price like this.

As you say, re-listing seems likely. I'm not sure what obligation the winner is under with ebay or the seller?

Snipe tools will only go as high as your maximum bid. The winning bidder must have been willing to go as high as this (unless they mistyped their bid).

It is very high - you could get a new titanium frame for less than that.

Surely thats missing the point isn't it  if we all wanted shiny new titanium frames we wouldn't all be frequenting this moneypit

Correct Mr Jones. :D

Could you get a hand built titanium frame for that price? Also these frames aren't made anymore, makes 'em more desirable.

This sort of bidding war does happen from time to time, great for the seller. Quick someone, buy Kona Paul's lovely King Kahuna, a bargain at £800, hell, I may even sell mine...

When you consider the UK price was £1,000 BITD, this one is still relatively cheap, accounting for inflation.

But still crazy money

First rule of sniping software: Only bid what you're prepared to pay.

Hei Hei was £1300 frame only, King Kahuna £1600.

 I was going by one of the later years scanned on Kona Retro.
I never knew they were so expensive.

Only paid £600 for mine brand new in 1998 in an end of year sale and sold it last year for the same amount

You got a real bargain. And a very good resale price.
Mine's also a 1998. Doubt I'll ever sell it... except for one with the correct Ti-Sports factory retro-fit disc tab.

I walked into my local bike shop one morning and everyone was looking at a sheet of paper, the importer for Kona were either moving premises or just having a sort out :? and the sheet of paper was a price list of bargain framesets 8)

I tried to buy two King Kahunas as well but by the time I got through to them there was only the Hei Hei left  The KKs were £700 each
