Bikes and... wait for it, wait for it, Churches!

Normally, on the first Sunday in October, I would be in Gaiole in Chianti for L’eroica.

Couldn’t make it this year, so yesterday had a ride around the Medway Towns - the Tuscany of South East England.

I'd read about the Italian risorgimento and the battle of Solferino before, but wasn't prepared for this.

There was no room to decently bury the thousands of soldiers who died during and after the battle, so their remains were stored in this converted church, now the Ossuary of Solferino. Impressive, to say the least.
