Bikes and... wait for it, wait for it, Churches!

Two very old churches near me

Fleet with a separate bell tower which I've never seen before (plus a religious relic of the holy portaloo) and the very wonky, almost cathedral sized, church at Gedney

St. John the Baptist Church in Kudelstaart (NL) this morning. They were open for business:

St James, Cooling on the edge of the North Kent marshes, Dickens country.

With my circa 1990 Ken Bird, documented on this forum somewhere back when I was a much more active member, and still in regular summer use.

This is the churchyard where Pip meets the convict Magwitch in the opening chapter of Great Expectations. Dickens lived a few miles away at Gads Hill Place, Higham.

I lived in the area for 20 years in the 1970s to 90s and by chance my stepdaughter moved there a couple of years ago and I usually take a bicycle when we visit. The Ken Bird remembers its way around still, but they've made all the hills a bit steeper and longer since I left.

Our Lady of the Nativity Church in De Meije, NL, late this afternoon. By now mrs non-fixie sighs whenever she sees a church during our rides ...

I was looking for this older picture at St James, Cooling but had forgotten it featured a "wrong" bicycle, my all year ride Fuji Track Classic. But it shows the little grave markers Dickens describes as Pip's siblings' in Great Expectations, so I'm posting it anyway.

It was 30C outside so I did a short wander round the local Putney churches.
Turns out there are quite a lot: 4.02 miles = 5 churches.
I didn't get hit by lightning once.
