No fruit at this time of year but I have a plan for when there is.

I wrote this recently about the loss of some grand old trees along one of my favourite bridleways. I suppose it should be in poetry corner really.



They have felled the great Ash trees
Along the old Coach Road
Two summers ago I cycled it
At dusk
And the air was moving velvet
In the humid gloom beneath
Their canopy
As bats sought out their tea.
A thousand flitting wings
Careening past my head.
Upholstering that night.
I shan't know it again
In my lifetime
But revel sadly in the memory of it
Now the trees are gone
And the bats moved on.
I see in the old stumps
That their heart was rotten.
It's no one's fault
But I feel the loss.
