Bike shop workers

Been doing my own bikes for 16 years now . When I left school people kept saying to work in a bike shop as it's what I knew and didn't really know what I wanted to do work wise but didn't as I was sure that if play was work then play would no longer be play . Years later after doing various things I ended up running a shop for a chap , it was the first time I actually looked forward to going to work  getting people into bikes is awesome . I'm now working in a shop that hasn't got the greatest of reputations after the place I ran had to close ( small shop , small town , recession ) . One of the lads who is only there until he becomes an electrician asked me why I do it ( lets face it I won't be buying a porche anytime soon ) so I whispered to him " It's not like real work at all , it's just playing with bikes really , shhh "

I worked at a couple shops for almost 2 years. Quit the last one and started my own business. Was a good move as I have 12 employees and a few cool toys. :D

Yup. I've been back in the business for 6 weeks at my LBS, 2 years at another LBS which closed down 18 months ago, over 20 years of fettling bikes. I used to break a lot of stuff as a kid

I am also www.thecycledoctor.co.uk which is now on hold due to my current position at my LBS

I helped out in my LBS and used to rebuild all the bikes (and secure me some good parts  ) at the Cambridge Cash Converters.

I started by restoring my friends touring bike for him after he went through a messy patch and needed to get away from it all.

I estimate I've repaired or rebuilt some 1500 bikes since and owned (for more than a week) around 300

I worked in a cycle department for six years (part-time) while in 6th Form and at Uni. Loved it, it was great. Surrounded by like-minded cycle enthusiasts and tinkering with bikes (albeit not the greatest ones).
