Bike Security

OK, it had to happen, but the Mrs has noticed bikes multiplying in the living room. She's asked that they go and live in the garage. I'll still keep 1 inside but the rest need to be moved.

My garage is a prefab concrete block built monster with concrete floors too. What I'd like is something to anchor my bikes to and chain them together.

I know that if someone is determined enough, they'll be away with them but I wondered if anyone on here had recommendations about what to use for the job.

The doors and windows will be locked and barred so it's really the 'inside' security that I'm interested in. Any ideas?

Find out haw thick the floor is before drilling in to it.
I wouldn't bother fixing anything to the wasll as they break like eggs.
If you have loads of bikes and frames chain then all together so they have to drag all of them out.

You can buy floor mounted anchor points (often used for motorbikes) and locking loads together is a good approach.

Also stealthily bolstering the security of your garage so as not to draw attention to it or what it may contain. And along those lines, avoid leaving doors open giving a good view to people, and keeping it quiet with neighbours as to what you keep in there (they may be trustworthy, but loose lips sink ships, so to speak - or maybe not quite as dramatically, often lead to some ne-er-do-well(s) finding your stash).

As an alternative, do you have loft space you could use / board out for bike storage?

The way I see it with my garage is to secure the doors and windows. If 'they' are inside then they are probably out of sight to spend as long as they like cutting any bike security, probably using tools also stored in the garage.

You've no doubt seen the damage thieves can do to a frame by twisting it,even if the dont take it it's still ruined. My advice would be to seriously beef up the locks and hinges on the garaged door. Also consider fitting an alarm[as well as beefing it all up]
If they cant gain entry in the first place then you'll only need standard locks, but consider that a determined thief has gained entry, lying all around your garage will be tools they can use to remove locks and if they do get in but cant undo the locks you may end up with damaged frames anyway.this is why i recommend keeping the fukcers out in the first place.

Suggest to the wife she store her jewellery in there also

Chain them together with multiple locks then chain a couple of breeze blocks into the sequence...or get the woman told and move her into the garage.

I had the same issue but bought a Kryptonite anchor. You can put it on the floor or a wall, got it off Amazon I think but must be a few places on the net to buy. They use them to anchor motorbikes and other valuable, so why not bikes too. I have 2 expensive cruisers, so dont want to risk it.

I then bought some super thick 'Master' chains with circle lock. They were cheaper than Abus but the reviews on them were great, so thought why not.

And park right outside the garage door to stop it being pried open at night, more people use there garages as storage but fail to park on there own drives.

I ran some conduit down the garden wall and added the garage to the burglar alarm system with a heat and movement detector inside. This might be simple, depending on how close the garage is to your house.
