Defintely get a stand - Christmas is coming - put one on your Christmas list! Just don't forwarn your family that the extra covenience of a stand makes tinkering so much more tempting and you'll be disappearing into the garage even more than before! My husband complains about this endlessly.
Before I had a stand though I used to hang the bike by the seat and bars on the bike rack on the camper - just needs a short pole set at right angles to the wheel tracks to support the seat and the bars hook over the frame of the rack. Holds the bike quite steady and at a reasonable working height.
I still use this method on holiday.
