Fortnight ago, outside me mechanics gaff, he was trying to sell me a bike and i felt obliged to have a spin in the street and made the mistake of presuming it rode just like mine (no fool like an olde fool). Me left eyebrow bone (whatever thats called) butted some very rough tarmacadam cause i was too busy trying to save the loaned bike from mashing the surface. It hurt (like a bat in the kite you've not seen coming)...and i'm stoic to pain (once fell off a block of flats). The thing is i also ride fast and know how easy it would be for some rough ground to take a riders ear clean off (we'll forget the dentures/swallowing your tongue or biteing it for now) and for that reason i'm actively searching for a vented poc type with optional chin gaurd...it's simply gotta go on the ex's. The scenario Andy describes wont effect me too much (at all), i train at home in a room containing an AGA cooker by hard running on the spot for 5 minutes x5 (the magic formula) intervals ....with a gas mask on.

I'd never buy a helmet, I've always got better things to spend money on. Plus I'm clearly more skilled than most as I can't remember the last time I came off a bike.

Selling me a bit short there, all round god would be more accurate.

Twice wearing a helmet has saved me from potentially far worse so injuries so i do. But others can decide for themselves whether to or not!

falling off a mtb is a fact of life. it happens some times.

This subject has been done to death so many times by the helmet Mafia trying to bully people in to wearing one. You don't see the non helmet riders telling people not to wear.
Live and let live. We have freedom here to choose. So Mr helmet f**k off telling me to wear a helmet when out on a ride.

Having fractured my skull when a Manitou 1 Steerer tube snapped I know first hand that wearing a Helmet would have saved me from some time in Hospital plus the 20 stitches and a fear of needles

My Helmets both Open and Full face have saved me on numerous occasions including one where I removed a huge chunk from a TLD D2 Full face which would have killed me.

Sorry if you dont wear a Helmet off road you are a fool and deserve to end up a cabbage
