i would say yes , but there will be an extra click at the bottom.....

i might have an old 7 speed set in the hut , theres no indicators but their 7 speed . most likely stx or just below stx....

Cheers fella, that would be great!

I was hoping that if I did use an 8 speed shifter, I could set up the rear mech so that it would just "ignore" an accidental extra click on the shifter, rather than allowing the chain to fall off the edge of the cassette.
