Bianchi bottom bracket help

Retro Newbie
Hello all, Im new here and need some help. I have been out of the bike game for many years now but after a visit to the local secondhand shop the other day I picked up a 1982 Bianchi road bike, A bit tired looking but all original for the price of £10. Anyway this has rekindled my love of bikes again. I have stripped it down and started to order new parts but the bottom bracket is damaged so I need a new one, Would it be an Italian thread or an English one?

Any help would be great. Cheers all...Rich

Welcome :). Pound to a Penny it's Italian, easiest way is to measure the width of the bottom bracket shell. Italian is 70 mm, UK is 68mm

Re:

See, I assumed this was the case with my late 90s era Bianchi steel frame (that I got to replace the cracked alloy one of the same era) so I ordered an italian threaded bottom bracket only to find its got a 68mm English thread and had to return the bottom bracket.

This is the same on both of these frames - did Bianchi possibly switch to the English threaded bottom bracket at some point in the early 90's?.

Simplest is to remove your bottom bracket...you'll soon find out. IIRC some frames were outsourced and therefore ended up with the standard bottom bracket.

It's probably marked on at least the drive side fixed cup - 36 x 24 is italian, 1.37 x 24 is english
